Gardening in the high desert mountains of Arizona since 2012

Moving from Vermont, where the average rainfall is 48″ a year, to the high desert mountains of Arizona, where on a good year brings only 19″, I quickly realized that gardening here would be a whole new challenge. I approached it as a series of puzzles to solve—each plant, each season, teaching me something new. With the right resources and the understanding that failure would be part of the process, I began a lifelong journey of learning to work with plants in one of the country’s most challenging growing regions.

Follow along to demystify gardening, a skill that I do believe everyone has the ability to learn so long as they are willing!
