A B O U T

I’m Janet—a gardener with a passion for plants, goats, cooking, and crafting handmade goods.

How It All Began

In 2015, I launched Prescott Gardener to help residents grow food right in their own backyards. I work alongside my clients—from design and installation, through the summer growing season, and all the way to harvest. In 2017, my work expanded to creating edible and floral plantscapes for businesses in downtown Prescott.

Starting a New Chapter in My New Home

As my home garden grew to fill every plantable corner of my ¼-acre lot in the pines, I realized it was time for more space. In fall 2021, I moved to a unique 1.5-acre property in town, with a 1940s stone cottage, the original horse barn, the bare bones of a greenhouse, and a couple sheds out back. The new space allowed for significantly bigger gardens, a bigger flock of hens & ducks, and room to establish my herd of goats.

A Flock of Hens & Establishing the Herd

That first winter, I quickly filled the coop with laying hens and was given some ducks by a friend. In January 2022, my dad gifted me two pregnant goats, sparking a love for these hardy, versatile animals. Over the seasons, the herd grew from two to fifteen at the highest, and they’ve become one of the key aspects of the farm, providing us with companionship, milk & meat.

And Then Came the Gardens

In spring 2022, I planted my first row garden on the new plot: five 30-foot-long rows full of tomatoes, corn, squash, okra, herbs, and more. The sandy, well-draining soil, amended with horse manure, combined with full sun exposure, made it my most productive garden yet. By summer 2024, I expanded my gardens into two plots, the second being over twice the size as the first, and planted every square foot of the two garden plots, fully embracing the abundance this land has to offer.
